CATARACT AND ITS SURGERY

A cataract is when the natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy or opaque, much like frosted glass, thereby depriving a person of his or her normal vision. This clouding of the lens reduces visual ability, and can cause complete loss of vision if it does not receive surgical treatment. The average cataract develops due to certain age-related factors, however there are many different types of cataracts, various causes, and a cataract can form at any age. For example, a patient can be born with a congenital cataract, can develop one due to trauma or from using certain types of medications, or develop one at a younger age because of certain health conditions like diabetes. The only treatment for cataracts is surgery, which can easily be performed at Horizon Eye Specialists and LASIK Center. We have offices located in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale, Goodyear and more.

Since the effect of a cataract is quite distressing and can pose other problems, doctors typically advise that their patients undergo surgical treatment as soon as possible. The process of removing the cataract from the eye is referred to as cataract surgery. This surgery can be performed by specialized doctors at Horizon Eye Specialists. During cataract surgery, an artificial lens will be inserted into the eye after the natural, cloudy lens is removed.
