Amy Van Dyken - co-host on "The Peak"
The 6-time gold medal Olympic champion swimmer, and current co-host of the popular morning radio show "Chris and Amy in the Morning" on 98.7 FM, is excited to share her experience as a LASIK patient.
"I recently had my eye surgery at Horizon Eye Specialists and couldn’t be happier! I had LASIK many years ago in Colorado and noticed a decrease in my vision of late. I became even more frustrated when I visited other surgeons in town who told me I couldn't have a touch-up procedure performed. After an extensive evaluation, Dr. McCulloch informed me I COULD have my vision corrected and the results have been outstanding! Thanks so much to Dr. McCulloch and his wonderful staff!"
Amy Van Dyken is an American swimmer who has 6 Olympic gold medals. Four of them came in the 1996 Summer Olympics, making her the first American woman to accomplish that feat, and the most decorated athlete (male or female) of the ’96 Games. Amy is currently the co-host of a popular Valley morning show Chris and Amy in the Morning on KPKX-FM (98.7 "The Peak").

Comments: I have been wearing my contacts since I was 11 years old and I finally decided (16 years later) that I would get LASIK. I was extremely nervous and wasn’t sure I could actually go through the process as anything dealing with my eyes I am extremely hesitant about. I just wanted to send a HUGE thank you to Dr. McCulloch and his staff members; especially Brian, Jill, Heidi, Ryan, and Tracy for their great customer service. The time they spent with me before my surgery really helped to calm my nerves. They were fantastic and made me feel extremely comfortable with the whole process. I couldn’t believe how quick the surgery was and amazed that I was able to see right after the surgery, in fact, I couldn’t believe the following morning I was already seeing 20/20! Dr. McCulloch is amazing during the process/surgery as he explains everything before and during the actual LASIK procedure which makes the whole situation very calming. I highly recommend going to Horizon Eye Specialists as you will be very pleased with their customer service and outstanding professionalism.

Comments: I was referred to Dr. Bagga after a routine eye exam disclosed a glaucoma-cataract condition in both eyes that needed attention. My first visit was comfortable and reassuring. She sat with me and explained my condition, the treatment and patiently answered all my questions.
The laser treatments were not successful, so surgery was the next step. I remember Dr. Bagga saying “Janice, you’re going to love this!” It was like bad news/good news. “You need surgery to correct the glaucoma and we need to remove the cataracts and you can get corrective lens implants”. WOW-after 60 years, no more glasses! I think she was as excited as I was.
She walked me through all the tests that needed to be done pre-surgery and was always there for me for questions and reassurance. The day of surgery she was at my bedside, holding my hand and calming my fears. The second surgery was the same.
I can’t say enough about the care I have received from Dr. Bagga and her staff. They always made me feel special and that they had all the time I needed. Thank you Dr. Bagga, you gave me the precious gift of sight.

Comments: I have been wearing glasses for 25 years, and for a multitude of reasons I decided it was time for them to go. With my job, I could not take any chances. I was also a little apprehensive about anything that had to do with my eyes. I did my research and chose Dr. McCulloch. The whole process from initial exam to post-op follow-up was a really great experience. I had nothing to worry about, just the fact that I did not get it done sooner. Dr. McCulloch was outstanding. His confident and personable demeanor really put me at ease, from the first exam, through the actual procedure itself. He explained everything before and during the actual LASIK, making the whole thing a real non-event. The next morning I was driving and seeing with 20/15 vision. The entire office staff really provided excellent customer service, but what really made the whole process so easy from start to finish was the Director of Surgical Administration, Corinna Aviles. She is there to explain everything to you when you first go in, and keeps track of your status through the last post-op exam. She responded to my phone calls and Emails promptly and got all of my questions answered. She explained the financing program that they offer and made that a real easy process as well. Horizon Eye did an outstanding job. I can't say enough about their professionalism and customer service. If you are thinking about LASIK, this is the place to go.
Name: Kami H. – Glaucoma
Comments: I was diagnosed with glaucoma recently by a glaucoma MD with another clinic. I was not sure that I had glaucoma and wanted a second opinion so I made an appointment with a Cataract and Glaucoma Specialist at Horizon Eye, Dr. Bagga. After an extensive eye exam, including special testing, I was informed that I did not have glaucoma, that I was a suspect and no longer needed to be on the eye drop that had been previously prescribed to me. Dr. Bagga was the most professional, genuine, kind and sincere MD that I have ever experienced. I would recommend Dr. Bagga to any person that is concerned about glaucoma or a have family member that may have glaucoma. You will receive the best care that is provided in AZ.

Comments: Where do I begin. My surgery has given me my life back. I feel like Dr. Bagga truly cares about her patients. I have had poor vision all my life and did not know I could see this well. Too bad I did not come sooner. I told Dr. Bagga, “you are an angel from God”, I was truly speechless and so overwhelmed.
Name: Kenneth S. – ICL surgery on 4/29/2011
Comments: I had the ICL (Implantable Contact Lens) surgery performed approximately 5 weeks ago. I have had no major issues at all. I have colleagues who had Lasik surgery performed and had experienced dry eyes and other complications, but with the ICL, I experienced none of that. I had been looking into having eye surgery for a long time; a couple years ago I had gone to numerous eye care centers (at least seven) and also did a lot of online research. Of the places I went to, I liked Horizon and Dr. McCulloch the best. He took the time to explain in detail what I needed as far as Laser surgery, and made me feel very comfortable. I had booked the Lasik surgery at that time; however, I ended up cancelling as other issues had taken priority over the surgery. This year things were better and I decided to definitely do the surgery. I booked a new consultation and went straight to Horizon. I did not bother with any of the other eye care centers as I knew I wanted to go with Dr. McCulloch. At my consultation, we were going to review the iLasik procedure and make sure that my eyes had not changed since the last time I was in. At this time, Dr. McCulloch informed me that he was performing a new procedure, the ICL, and that because of my high prescription, the ICL procedure was better and safer for me than Lasik. I had heard about this procedure a couple years ago, but back then it was still very new, which made me unsure about it. Dr. McCulloch explained the ICL procedure in detail, and indicated that it was a better option given my high prescription. I decided to go for it! The day of the surgery, I went to the surgery center early in the morning. The staff there is very professional and friendly. The anesthesiologist joked with me and told me he was giving me a couple martinis; he stayed with me and made me feel very relaxed. The procedure to implant the contact lenses took about 15 minutes and there was no pain or discomfort. All I had to do was focus my eyes on a light above me and Dr. McCulloch did the rest! After the surgery, I had a friend drive me home wearing big dark sunglasses. After arriving at home, I slept until evening. That same evening I went out to a local restaurant/bar for a Friday Fish Fry. Sitting at the bar, drinking an ice tea, everything was very clear and colorful, reading all the bar signs and seeing all the TV’s around me very clearly, with no glasses, only shades! The day after the surgery my eye sight was 20-15! This is considered better than perfect vision! My near vision was slightly worse but it has improved over the last month and I am back to pre-surgery near vision. I had gotten a pair of reading glasses, but ended up returning those. I still look for my glasses once in a while since I had worn glasses and contacts for about 30 years, but I am happy to be getting over that habit! I now look around and see the world with my perfect vision. Thanks Dr. McCulloch! I highly recommend the ICL procedure with Dr. McCulloch.

Comments: Just a quick note to say thank you for your excellent service and atmosphere. When we come to a facility like this, we expect great results, however, your attention to details, the personality of your quality staff, and the overall environment of your business, is second to none. Thank you again for your effort to be the best.

Comments: My eyesight was perfect until I turned 17 years old and was forced to wear glasses to fix my astigmatism. I joined the Army out of high school and was required to wear my glasses for things as basic as shooting my rifle. Upon returning home from Afghanistan, I was told that Horizon Eye Specialists & Lasik Center was performing free laser eye correction to return Arizona veterans so I immediately applied. I received PRK and my eyesight has been great ever since. I can see perfectly at near and far sight and thanks to my corrective operation I am now eligible to apply for Army Aviation School, which I plan on doing.
Name: Joan W. – Cataracts & Glaucoma
Comments: We are winter visitors from Illinois and our neighbours recommended Dr. Bagga to start with. I was a little bit unsure about going ahead with my cataract and glaucoma surgery, but after meeting with Dr. Bagga, I had no doubt that I wanted to proceed. Her smile lights up the room and she makes you feel very confident in her abilities. She and her staff explained the whole procedure in detail which was what I liked the most. I knew exactly what was happening and felt confident that I was being taken care of!

Comments: I've worn glasses since 5th grade and contacts for 50 years. Ever since I learned lens implants could be placed IN the eye following the removal of cataracts, I've wanted those cataracts to grow! A month ago my left eye was reborn, yesterday the right eye. The results have WAY exceeded my hopes and I feel like a new person because of it. Special thanks to Dr. McCulloch and Dr. Rockwell and to all the technicians in the 3 offices I've seen.

Comments: For many years, I have seen numerous doctors for my glaucoma. I've always been a bit confused with the treatment that had been given to me. At the beginning of the year, I went to see Dr. Bagga at her Scottsdale office. I was very impressed as soon as I walked in; the receptionist was very kind, she even offered me coffee while I was waiting to be seen. Shortly after, the technician took me back and did a variety of preliminary tests. Each test was explained in detail prior to being performed. I then was seen by Dr. Bagga, who was very kind and extremely detailed with her exam. After she finished examining me, she answered all of my numerous questions. At no point during my visit did I feel rushed or cut short. I felt very satisfied with her exam and with her explanation of my treatment. My experience with Dr. Bagga at her Scottsdale office was terrific! I left feeling extremely happy. I look forward to seeing her again. Maria B.
Name: Scott Savage – Verisyse on 3/14/2011
Comments: Through a near-death car accident, when my father rolled our car near Flagstaff, I discovered that I was near-sighted. I started wearing glasses at age 9 and switched to hard contacts at age 12 to slow down my deteriorating vision. By 16, I was into soft contacts, followed by toric lenses for my astigmatism. After 10 years of this, I was tired of having to carry my glasses with me at night because my eyes wouldn't tolerate contacts throughout my evening activities. I was told I wasn't a candidate for LASIK, but Dr. McCulloch recommended the Verisyse lens as an option to correct my myopia and astigmatism. I couldn't be more happy with the experience I had with Horizon, the staff, and the procedures. They even laughed with me when I forgot to fast before one procedure. Thanks for making it possible for me to wake up in the morning and be able to read the clock across the room.

Comments: Wow! I have been in glasses and/or contacts for almost 30 years. I always knew that I wanted to have lasik, but for one reason or another, I just kept putting it off. That is until December 2010. I put my trust in Dr. McCulloch and his staff and am so very happy I chose Horizon Lasik Center. Dr. McCulloch was professional and cared enough to let me know ALL of my options so that I was able to make the best informed decision. The pre-surgery and post- operative care by Dr. Rockwell, Dr. Feller, Dr. Girardin, and Dr. Kramer has been excellent! They have a great staff of Doctors with so many years of combined knowledge. I would recommend the Horizon team to anyone! With Gratitude, Donalda

Comments: I had hoped to get Lasik from the moment my optometrist told me I would have to wear contacts and glasses. For a lot of years I put off Lasik for one reason or another. Finally, while doing my taxes I realized how much I had spent on contacts and glasses in just one year. I realized that the time for Lasik was now. Once I had made up my mind that I wanted out of contacts and I glasses I made an appointment for a consultation. A family member had PRK with Dr. McCulloch and had wonderful results. Dr. Rockwell , my optometrist, and Dr. McCulloch made me feel at ease thru the entire process. All I could feel was excitement from the moment I was told I was a candidate for Lasik to the time I walked into the OR for my procedure. I now see 20/15. I have better than perfect vision and cannot stop smiling.

Comments: I had worn glasses since I was 12 years old. I decided to get Lasik surgery, but had to wait until I was 21 years old. I had Lasik in May 2006, and it was the best decision I have ever made. I did a lot of research before hand, talked to my optometrist, and through both, came to the decision to visit Horizon Laser Vision Center. Even though it was expensive, I would rather pay more to have surgery on my eyes done RIGHT the first time, rather than risk having it done cheap and wrong and suffer the consequences. I would recommend Dr. McCulloch to anyone thinking about having Lasik surgery. He was very kind, understanding, and calming. 5 years later, I still have 20/15 vision, no discomfort, and no problems.

Comments: Fast friendly service, the whole staff was very helpful.
I have worn glasses since I was in elementary school and now I am 70 years old. I have used the services of many optometrists. Also, due to both personal and the military, I had witness many medical personnel, doctors, and procedures. The following commentary is done to share the most pleasant and beneficial services that improved my eyesight.
Doctor Bassett, Therapeutic Optometrist, did my eye examination on January 2011. This exam resulted in minor changes for my glasses and a cataract was discovered so a surgery was recommended. Both the doctor and staff were professional, timely, and most pleasant to communicate with. Never did I feel uncomfortable in any manner. His recommendation for surgery took me to Horizon Eye Specialists and Lasik Center, Phoenix and Harmohina Bagga, MD.
Dr. Bagga is very pleasant and professional. Considering how sensitive I feel about my eyesight never was I uncomfortable with any recommendation, procedure or appointment. Both pre and post-operative appointments and services under her direction were extremely efficient and timely.
Spectra Eye Institute, Sun City is the facility where the surgery was conducted. This facility is the finest and most comfortable surgical facility one can imagine. Every possible detail for the comfort of the patient and the efficiency of the procedures is observed and practiced.
The end result: I now have virtually 20/20 vision. I did not suffer any pain or discomfort during any of the procedures. Furthermore I am extremely comfortable in recommending any of the aforementioned personnel and facilities to anyone requiring similar services and correction(s) concerning their eyesight.
As a contractor, I spend my days at job sites with all kinds of construction going on. With the debris and dust everywhere, wearing my contact lenses was almost impossible. My eyes were constantly red and irritated and I couldn’t wait to take my contacts out at night for at least a few hours of relief! I decided that I wanted to be free of contacts once and for all, so I scheduled an appointment with Dr. McCulloch. Right away I could tell that he was the kind of doctor that honestly cared about his patients. He was personable and professional and I knew he really wanted to help me. Now I see 20/20 with no glasses or contacts, and it makes each day a whole lot better. I should have done this long ago.
Choosing a doctor for LASIK was not easy. I did my research. After meeting Dr. McCulloch and the staff, I knew they were the team for me! Dr. McCulloch’s extensive experience was impressive, but it was the time they took talking with me about the procedure that really made me feel comfortable and “sealed the deal”. His staff was great – professional, knowledgeable and patient. Dr. McCulloch and his staff made me feel as though I was the most important patient they had. I highly recommend Dr. McCulloch and the staff at Horizon Laser Vision Center.
I had worn contact lenses for ten years prior to two corneal transplants at age 25. After that, glasses would no longer correct my vision, and being such an active person, the specialty made contacts I had to wear were impractical. I began to investigate LASIK in 1997, hoping that someone could help me. Every vision center that I called told me that no doctor would perform LASIK on transplanted corneas. I later discovered that Dr. McCulloch had in fact performed this procedure successfully, many times, and so I decided to put my faith in him.
Here’s what I know; if I were born ten years earlier, I would have lived life as a blind man. Technology matured more and more, seemingly in the nick of time, to save me from that fate. I also came across Dr. McCulloch who had the talent to do what others could not, and would not even try. He promised me very little and delivered well past my highest expectations. Some people call it luck. I call it a miracle!
Lily and Larry Parot
Both my husband and I had worn contacts and glasses for 20 years, and decided we’d worn them long enough and were ready to free ourselves! I asked my ophthalmologist whom he would recommend for LASIK surgery and he said Dr. McCulloch was the best. When my husband asked his optometrist whom he’d recommend, he also said Dr. McCulloch. With this type of respect in the medical profession, we knew we wanted Dr. McCulloch to perform our LASIK surgeries. The staff at Horizon was very professional and courteous. Dr. McCulloch was extremely informative and thorough. We highly recommend Dr. McCulloch and Horizon Laser Vision Center to anyone interested in LASIK. As for ourselves, we could not have made a better decision.
We all, at points in our lives, have issues that require us to consult a physician. Unfortunately, I have had many optical issues associated with Graves disease. I have had excellent care from my two ophthalmologists, one for my Graves problems and one for pressure, cataracts, etc. My primary ophthalmologist referred me to Dr. Bagga for high eye pressure and cataracts. I nervously went to my first appointment, only to find a kind, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable woman who immediately put me at ease. Yes, my pressure was high and yes, I did have cataracts that needed to be removed, but after spending time with her, I had total confidence in her. She answered all my questions, taking whatever time was needed, explained the procedures and what she had to do because of the Graves disease. She understood the apprehension I had facing yet another two surgeries on my eyes and did everything possible to put me at ease. Dr. Bagga completed both surgeries (for me surgery numbers 8 and 9) and at this point I have had both cataracts removed without incident and am doing well with no complications or problems.
Experiencing the extreme issues I have with Graves disease, I WOULD NOT USE ANYONE BUT DR. BAGGA to monitor my eye pressure, cataract problems, and any other issues that may arise from this dreaded disease. I feel extremely blessed to have Dr. Bagga in my corner and feel she is the best there is in her field. I would give my HIGHEST recommendation to anyone contemplating becoming a patient of Dr. Bagga. Simply put…. She is extraordinary.
