What Exactly is Same-Day LASIK?

So you’ve heard about LASIK laser eye surgery, but did you know about our same-day LASIK procedure? If you’ve been thinking about getting LASIK surgery, this might be an option that’s up your alley. Here’s an overview of what this type of LASIK procedure entails, and whether you might want to consider it for yourself.

Step One: Phone Consultation

If you want to learn whether you’re a candidate for same-day LASIK, you’ll start with a phone consultation. Call our office to schedule a day and time, and plan to block out about a half hour for this conversation. During the phone call, you’ll talk with one of our qualified counselors about your prescription and whether it makes you an ideal candidate for the same-day procedure (if not, you’ll likely need to come in for an in-person evaluation, but this is usually only the case if you have a complicated prescription).

If the counselor does let you know your prescription is within the ideal parameters for same-day LASIK, you’ll continue to speak more in-depth with our counselor on the phone. You’ll learn about what to expect the day of the procedure, along with post-op instructions. You’ll also discuss pricing and payment options. Then, you’ll schedule your same-day LASIK procedure.

Step Two: Office Visit & Procedure

When you arrive at our offices on the date of your procedure, you’ll meet with the surgeon. He’ll give you an evaluation and take all the maps and measurements he’ll need in order to perform your LASIK surgery. You’ll get the same level of high-quality care that all our LASIK patients receive, and will have as much time as you need to ask the doctor questions.

Once your candidacy is in fact confirmed by the surgeon, you’ll pay for the procedure according to the financing option you agreed to. Then, it’s time for the laser eye surgery itself. You’ll receive a Valium to calm your nerves, and then the procedure will take about 15-20 minutes. From start to finish, this office visit and surgery will take about two hours total (three hours maximum).

Before you leave, you’ll be given your post-op care guidelines, and a prescription for eye drops. You should have a friend or family member with you who can drive you home, and if you can’t find someone to do this, we can help you schedule a ride via Uber.

Step Three: Follow-up Visit

We typically schedule our same-day LASIK procedures for Friday afternoons for the convenience of our patients. This means your next day follow-up appointment will likely need to take place the following Saturday morning. At this visit, the surgeon will take a look at your eyes, see how they’re healing and make sure everything looks as it should. This visit will give you another opportunity to ask the doctor any questions you have. Once you’re done, you’ll be on your way with clear vision and happy eyes.

If you’re interested in getting all the possible LASIK benefits, choosing our same-day procedure adds in one more - time saved, thanks to one less appointment in the process. If you’d like more information, or to schedule a phone consultation, please contact us any time.
