What Do I Do With My Old Glasses?

You just got LASIK and are thrilled you can essentially see the world in HD. But, you’re also seeing your old glasses laying around your house and wondering if you should toss them or do something else with them. Or, maybe you just got a brand new pair of eyeglasses. You like them way better than your previous pair, so you want to say goodbye to the old ones. In either scenario, can you donate glasses? You sure can - and we recommend it. Here’s more about charity donations for glasses.

Why Donate Glasses?

It might seem easier to declutter your house by simply throwing away your glasses. But we don’t advise doing so. For one, it’s wasteful. Landfills everywhere are full enough without filling them further with old glasses.

And second, it’s a waste of something really useful, from which countless people in need could benefit. So, donate glasses instead of throwing them. You’ll be making the right choice, from both environmental and social perspectives.

Where Should I Go To Donate?

Luckily, there are plenty of organizations that accept charity donations for glasses. Here’s a short list of a few to consider:

  • Horizon Optical - The optical shop inside of Horizon Eye Specialists. You can drop them off when you are in for your appointment or at your convenience at all of our locations.  We work with local Lions Clubs and route donated eyeglasses to them to recycle and donate.
  • New Eyes - This nonprofit organization helps improve vision for those who can’t afford regular eye exams and vision correction. You can donate gently used eyeglasses in good or excellent condition and help in giving someone the gift of better vision. Here are some more details about the process.
  • Lions Clubs - Another option is to go directly to a Lions Club eyeglass recycling center near you. Check out their website for specifics on donating this way.

If you’re breaking up with your eyeglasses for one reason or another, it’s a great time to donate glasses to charity. You’ll prevent unnecessary waste in our landfills, and also help provide sight to people in need. It’s truly a win/win.
