Customizing Your Vision: Exploring Premium Lens Options for Cataract Surgery

Our patients are unique, so we always recommend cataract lenses based on each one’s particular vision situation and personal preferences. If you’re considering cataract surgery, we want you to know that cataract lenses can be used to customize your vision. Here is an overview of premium lens options to help you better understand your available options.

Light Adjustable Lens Cataract Surgery

Horizon Eye Specialists and Lasik Center was the first in Arizona to offer a revolutionary new lens implant, the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) by RxSight. The LAL is the first and only FDA-approved intraocular lens implant (IOL) that can be adjusted after cataract surgery. It allows surgeons to partner with their patients and achieve optimized results for every eye.

With the LAL, beginning two to three weeks after surgery, the doctor administers an office-based UV light treatment (which generally takes 90 seconds) that adjusts the prescription of the IOL while it is in the patient’s eye. This can be repeated two to three times until patients have achieved their vision goals. The surgeon then uses a final exposure treatment to preserve the lens power.

If you want to achieve the best possible distance vision without glasses, and/or if you’ve had previous vision-correcting surgery like LASIK, PRK, or RK, this could be a fantastic choice for you.

More Premium Lenses for Cataract Surgery

In addition to the LAL, we are proud to offer several premium choices for IOLs. Here are a few:

  • Multifocal - An IOL that replaces the natural crystalline lens of the eye during surgery. This type can also correct presbyopia, a condition in which the ability to see objects in the near range of vision diminishes with age. The Multifocal IOL corrects vision at multiple distances.
  • Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) - This type of lens provides a continuous range of vision, improving focus across more than one distance of vision and designed to reduce the need for reading glasses.
  • Toric - Patients who suffer from cataracts and astigmatism may require special lenses to correct their vision after cataract surgery. Cataract surgery and standard IOLs alone cannot correct astigmatism, but a Toric IOL can correct cataracts and correct for the astigmatism–creating sharp vision at one range.

If you’re ready to remove your cataract(s) and have clear vision and better eye health, we’re standing by to discuss the Light Adjustable Lens Cataract Surgery and all types of IOL options we offer with you. Schedule your cataract consultation today!
